![]() I continued to use the Proctor Silex iron for a span of 25+ years in class and still use it for such to this very day. It was so durable that I moved it from everyday ironing duties to my arts and crafts iron when I began teaching arts & crafts in public school. It's simplicity has been one reason for it lasting as it only had a low setting with ranges from synthetic, steam, wool, cotton, linen to high setting. That iron is now 40+ years old and still going. When I married, my husband had a basic Proctor-Silex steam iron and ironing board so I didn't have to worry about asking for or getting either. The "Proctor Silex Steam Iron 17291Y" is an iron for someone who likes quick fixes, and who is always on the go. The design and color of this steam iron is attractive, especially considering the cheap price. This iron will not last for years because it is not that lasting. It has temperature problems upon occasion. It heats up quickly, and it is easy to clean. It is lightweight, so it is easy to carry and store. Sometimes it spills water, if you knock it over while ironing. Your shirts, tops, skirts, dresses and other clothing will look nice but some wrinkles will remain. There are other steam irons I have tried that remove all wrinkles. It does a fairly good job of removing wrinkles in your clothes, but it does "not" get rid of all of them. When you want to dispense the spray, it comes out in a fine-mist. It also has an easy-view water window, so you can see when you need to add water for more steam. Proctor Silex Steam Iron 17291Y does an average job of steaming your clothes. True Proctor Silex Steam Iron 17291Y Is For Simple Steam Ironing Otherwise, this iron is good at what it's supposed to do and it's inexpensive too. Sometimes when I iron, the cord swings out and gets in the way and once I almost ironed the cord. We store it with the cord wrapped around the iron so that might not be the best way to do it. Be careful as the cord is easy to get tangled up. The design is simple yet the iron is pretty durable. As long as you don't use it to iron/melt plastic you shouldn't need to really clean it. One nice thing is that I have never had to clean this iron. Be careful as this iron does get very hot on the cotton setting. You can add water and use the steam function although I never do that. It is simple to use as you just turn the dial to what kind of fabric you are ironing (cotton, polyester, etc.). It irons nicely and it heats up fairly quickly. It was super cheap and it's very basic but it gets the job done. We have had this iron for about 5 years now. Three ironing tips, to make ironing go faster - 1) get the biggest and widest ironing board you can deal with - the bigger the board the less garment moving that needs to be done during ironing, 2) buy an iron with a big and wide face, similar to the board, the bigger the face, then less passes you have to do, to complete the ironing and 3) line your ironing board, between the ironing board and the ironing pad/cover with tin foil - as the ironing with heat the tin foil, creating a two way ironing process on the garment. Overall I would not recommend buying this iron and spend a few dollars more to ensure you get an iron, with a retractable cord, an easy to read water fill "tank" and a really large (ironing/plate) face. #STEAM IRON REVIEWS PRO#The pro to the iron, is it is very light and the (non-retractable cord), can be angled to accommodate a lefty, a righty or more preferable positioning. The temperature selection dial can easily get moved, as it's a turn dial that doesn't really "stick" in place to the temperature you select. the water "tank" area, is the same color, translucent green, as the iron, thus makes it very, very, very difficult to see how much water you have put into it). You are unable to tell how much water you have filled the iron with, as there is no easy to see water fill window (i.e. Plus then when you go to store it, you have to wrap or bunch the cord. if you don't carefully place the iron in a standing position, it will tip or fall over). There is no retractable cord, which becomes a problem, as the cord then gets in the way, when you just want to stand the iron upright (i.e. This is a cheap iron missing some of the standard features that are needed to make the ironing process more "enjoyable". ![]()
